A sea is a mighty king, whoever drinks from the sea gets from his money.

Anyone who goes into the sea and stands in the mud and muck at the bottom will get trouble from the king or his ministers. The same applies if you walk into a stream but then the concern is from a man.

[ibn Qutaybah]

To see yourself drown in the sea and then survive suggests that you will drown in the dunya and the love for it, but eventually change for the better.

Looking out over the sea from a distance without approaching it suggests hopes and goals that will not be achieved.

If you see yourself traveling on the water without getting your feet wet, you will be spared from hell and be a person who in this life reconciles and calls people to good.

Al-Kirmani said:” Whoever sees himself drinking from the sea and its water is cold will get into a dispute with someone.

If the person who sees himself drinking is knowledgeable about Islam, it suggests that he will gain the knowledge he wants to achieve.

If you see yourself drinking hot water from the sea, you’re in for trouble.

If the water tastes and smells disgusting, you will suffer defeat against your opponent, or suffer setbacks from a ruler.”

An ocean can mean several different things depending on who sees it.

For a soldier it can symbolize a king/leader.

For a student of Islamic knowledge, it can symbolize a learned person, as the parable says “He is a sea of knowledge.”

Seeing yourself diving for pearls in the sea symbolizes immersing yourself in knowledge.

The sea can also indicate the worldly life/dunya and all the dangers therein.

High and strong waves indicate major setbacks.

Falling into the sea without being able to get out can indicate a companion [som man inte kan lämna].

The sea can also symbolize a noble and generous person.

Seeing yourself crossing an ocean indicates that you will receive money from an enemy.

Seeing yourself drinking the water of the sea symbolizes that you will receive money from the ruler/king.

Seeing the sea from a distance without being able to enter it symbolizes a desire or a goal that will not be realized.

Seeing an ocean can also indicate that the coming winter will be long.

To see oneself walking on a dry passage through the sea suggests safety and security from what one fears.

Seeing the sweet and salty sea meet symbolizes two powerful leaders/kings, one of them being generous and the other being stingy.

Or it suggests that you will receive riches, clothes and other good things.

Seeing the sea rise and enter the settlement to the point where people’s clothes get wet or sea creatures eat people’s food symbolizes the leader’s injustice to the people.

To see oneself swimming through the sea from one place to another symbolizes being spared from an adversity and anxiety.

Anyone who sees themselves swimming in the sea in winter will get sick, be imprisoned or suffer hardship because of the person in power.
